Reviving the Moniac as a teaching tool for modern economics classrooms. An Apple Vision Pro experience that brings a pioneering 1949 hydraulic computer out of museums and into student hands.

The challenge

Only a handful of working Moniac machines exist today, sitting in museums where students can't touch them. The goal was making economic theory visible and interactive again without the interface getting in the way. Designing for spatial computing meant rethinking every UI principle that works on screens. Distance, scale, and haptic feedback suddenly mattered in ways they never do with traditional interfaces. The interface needed to preserve the cause-and-effect clarity that made the original machine such an effective teaching tool. We wanted to create an experience where personalisation didn't feel gimmicky, where people trusted us with their most private thoughts, and where the interface adapted to different writing styles without getting in the way
